Hello everyone! February is cruising past us at breakneck speed, but we thought we’d update you all on the latest at the Lovely Dozen & 12 Houses Bellydance. LOTS of opportunities to check out Bellydance in North Dakota this month!
SATURDAY, Feb 9th: Feast of Nations, Grand Forks.
This is a surprise addition to our schedule this month: we were asked to perform our Baba Karam number from Celebrate the Night, and a revamped version of an old favorite, Chicky! If you haven’t bought your ticket already (this event tends to sell out early, so sorry if you haven’t!) it’s gonna be a great show – we’re honored to be asked back again after performing in previous years!
TUESDAY, Feb 12th: Club Bellydance in Fargo/Moorhead! We’ve included info on this page about this coming show before, but as it gets closer we just can’t wait to share the stage with members of the Bellydance Superstars!
TUESDAY, Feb 19th: Dancing with Denise at the UND Memorial Ballroom – dancers from the Lovely Dozen Troupe will be sharing in some interactive experiences with attendees from the University’s School of Nursing. Sure to be a great time!
SATURDAY, Feb 23rd: Tribal Wonderland with Gaia Sophia of Pine River, MN! We always have a blast attending this event, full of workshops and performances from amazing dancers all over the tri-state area (and beyond!) This year is sure to be another one to remember.
And that takes us into March. We have decided NOT to host a hafla this month because of how busy we currently are (and are going to be), but hold on to your hats because there will be plenty of opportunities for performances coming up! Including…
We’ve hinted about this previously, but we’re excited to announce now that we are officially participating in Shimmy Mob! So far 3 dancers have committed to this international event, and as we get closer to our Workshops & Stage Show with Saroya of Atlanta in May, we hope to see more dancers registering – and anyone can do it!
Shimmymob is an global campaign to raise awareness about domestic violence, specifically violence against women. Participants pay $35 for a T-shirt and access to choreography to perform with their “team” (we’re the first ever team from North Dakota!) on World Bellydance day, May 11th – at that time we’ll videotape ourselves doing the choreography, then upload it to the Shimmymob website, where they’ll share it with the world in a mashup of all the dancers performing the choreography internationally!
The Grand Forks YMCA has graciously accepted our request to serve as a rehearsal space for this event, and we are in communications with the CanadInn for locations to perform the choreography. Our local charity to raise awareness for will be the Community Violence Intervention center. We encourage members of the Grand Forks community to please consider donating directly to CVIC or sponsoring a dancer (even if it’s yourself 🙂 for this event! The more the merrier, and it’s sure to be a great time!
As we get closer to Shimmy Mob and the workshops with Saroya (earlybird registration ends March 31st!) there will be more and more details coming out about these awesome events. We are excited to share Bellydance with our community in bigger and better ways than ever before! It all kicks into high gear after this weekend – once we hit Fargo, watch out! We’re on a roll!
